Records of the Kansas Highway Commission, 1933-1975.

This collection contains the records of the State Highway Commission of Kansas. The majority of the record group consists of aerial photographs of Kansas counties taken for and/or by the Highway Commission. Other documents include petitions for roadside improvement, signed by the Kansas Roadside Improvement Council, for the beautifying and improvement of Kansas roadsides. Other records include blueprints and engineering designs for roadwork on I-35 and K-131. Also included are applications for motor vehicle tiles.

The Kansas State Highway Commission was created in 1917 and consisted of three members: the governor, who was the ex officio chairman; and two members appointed by him or her from districts defined by law. They served four-year terms. The commission was repealed in 1925 and was recreated consisting of three members appointed by the governor from named districts for four-year terms.
